There’s no big difference between work schedule and pilgrimage time. Before you need to start work at 9am and back home at 5, now you start walking regularly at 8am and arrive in albergue at 4pm. Before you always complain your boss in the tea room during lunch break, now you have chatting with other pilgrims in cafe at that time. The physical tiredness you experience is not less than being busy all day in the office. During the pilgrimage, the daily schedule is pretty simple and routine. Day after day, trying to pursue the peace of mind.
During this month, the time which human set up isn’t important, the physical needs would tell you what you need to do at every moment. In my case, I was suffering from plantar fasciitis a lot. I had to take two tablets of ibuprofen for releasing my pain, I also felt the sour from my feet for every two hours, no more or less, exactly two hours. Because of this, my walking schedule is quite routine, basically I’ll take 15-30 mins rest for walking every two hours.
My walking speeds is pretty slow, comparing to other young pilgrims. The reason is very simple, insufficient training make me walk like a old nanny. Approximately my speed is 4.5 km per hour, basing on the terrain and body condition. the below chart is my average completed hour which depends on the distance.
| Distance (km) | finished time | completed hour |
| 20 km | 12:30 | 4.5 hours |
| 28 km | 15:00 | 7 hours |
| 30 km | 16:30 | 8.5 hours |
| 35 km | 18:00 | 10 hours |
This chart shows that I’m not good at long-distance walking. I’ve heard lots of pilgrims could walk over 40km for one day, even my friend Tomo has finished 52km within one day. Though I admire their strength, but I know because of the insufficient training, the longest distance that my body can endure is 35km. Besides, I’ll face physical weakness after the long-distance day, means only 25 km or less for the next day.

My schedule is showed above. Mostly pilgrims would start their walking between 6am to 7 am. However, I hate that traffic and crowed feeling and I always booked my accommodation ahead, so normally I start walking at 8am. Becoming the one who almost be kicking out from the albergue. I’ll have my lunch break at 12:30 and continue my journey one hour after. Depends on my expected distance for that day, the time I arrive in albergue would be a bit different. However, no matter how long it is, I’ll finish my walk before 6pm.
The time after arriving albergue would be doing laundering, having dinner, hearing mass and chatting with other pilgrims. At the end of the day, I always go to sleep at 10pm.
Today’s article is my daily schedule, which is quit boring. I’m not sure have I provided any useful idea for you guys LOL. For the last warm reminder , I’m a lazy pilgrim. Comparing to other’s schedule, mine is very easy and comfortable. If you’re physically strong and have plenty of outdoor experience, I believe you can spend less hours than me but finish even longer distance.
